Advancing Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Legislation in Uganda
EMLI through Action Aid Uganda received USD 51,892 from Australian Aid for the period October 2015 – June 2016 to advance climate change adaptation planning and legislation in Uganda.
Climate Change adaptation planning is necessary for the prioritization of the most urgent adaptation activities as well as planning for medium and long term interventions.
To that end, EMLI in partnership with ActionAid Uganda, the Ministry of Water and Environment Climate Change Department and Local Rights Programmes (LRPs) of Katakwi and Amuru districts are undertaking interventions aimed at advancing climate change adaptation planning and legislation in Uganda.
The interventions are envisaged to popularize the findings from the national adaptation programmes of action for Uganda (NAPA) evaluation study, promote climate change planning in Katakwi and Amuru district local governments, lobby government honor climate change commitments and operationalize the Climate Change Law formulation process and contribute to the development of the national adaptation plan (NAP) for Uganda; The interventions seek to guide the formulation of adaptation interventions, improve climate change planning and budgeting in Katakwi and Amuru districts, enhance the role of civil society to influence Government Climate Change commitments at national, regional and global levels and initiate the Climate Change Law development process.
In particular, the partnership will inform the on-going national adaptation plan (NAP) formulation process for Uganda.
